Babies  or  Adults?
Which is right for you?

Babies are cute, very active, and fun to watch as they zip around the cage but even well socialized babies can be hard to hold for children or first time rat owners. They are like toddlers; high energy and always on the go.

There are many advantages to adopting one of our young adults.
They are calmer and more laid back than when they were babies.  The adults we adopt out are our retired breeders who have been worked with a lot, use to lots of loving and are ready to retire from breeding  to a life of true leisure.  Since we keep only the best from each litter, you know you are getting the cream of the crop so to speak. We would love to keep each and everyone of our sweeties but sadly this just can't be if we are to continue to develop and improve fancy rats as friendlier,  healthier and longer living pets.

Males or Females?
Which makes the better pet?

Females are generally more active than males. Females are fun to watch because when they aren't sleeping or eating they always seem to be "busy." They seem to need to explore every nook and cranny of their play area over and over again. As they age, their activity level decreases some but most still need to be "on the go". I feel that females need longer free-range play time each day than males. I let my females play out of the cage for 2-3 hours each day.
Males are my favorite pets. They are generally more lazy and cuddly. As they mature they usually like to just hanging out with you; relaxing on your shoulder or lap. They like to explore and need free-range play time too to keep them mentally and emotionally healthy. My males get 1-2 hours of play each day.

Of course these are generalizations.  I have seen lines where the males are active than the average male and lines where the females are more laid back and cuddly than the average female. There are always exceptions to the "rule."
